Guitar Player Magazine Backissues
The series comprised the single pickup, single cutaway F , the dual pickup single cutaway F , and the double cutaway dual pickup F All models came in a single finish, described by Martin as Honey Burst, and were offered with an optional bigsby tailpiece. The bound body was of a laminate construction, with the finished top being maple. The neck was mahogany with a rosewood fretboard and a traditional Martin headstock and logo with three-per-side tuners, and joined the body at the 14th fret. The F Series were the only Martin to ever use plexiglas bridges, possibly the only guitars ever to do so. The reason plexiglas was used was that a Martin board member at the time owned a plexiglas factory and was keen to get into the guitar hardware business. Close examination of the rear of the F in the gallery below will show that the double cutaway was acheived by retaining the body heel to the 14th fret — a creative but somewhat unusual solution to create a double cut. Typical Martin attention to design detail is clear — the unique pickup cover cutaways and the complementary designs on the tailpiece of both the chrome trapeze of the stop tail and the black panel on the Bigsby tailpiece, the body high visibility dots to show the position of each volume and tone control are just some examples. The F Series were made between late and , and followed the normal Martin 6-digit serial number sequence, shared with all other instruments from this period. The serial number can be found with a little help from a flashlight inside the upper F-Hole.

It was freakin’ awesome, and a Marshall killer.
Many thanks for the speakers! They arrived at the 27th an I installed them today. And, what should I say, they work… perfect! And, of course, i will recommend your company my friends. Best wishes from the snowy Austria! The skilled technicians at the Speaker Exchange deserve all positive endorsements and accolades and far more.. In my opinion they did the impossible. Even the original makers of these fine speakers at OHM Accoustics state the skilled technicians no longer exist and have long retired.
Ohm should refer their loyal clients that have a desire to continue hearing these classic speakers, to the Speaker Exchange. The skilled staff repaired several other Ohm speakers, with the same glorious results. Thank You Bob C. Fruiland Park FL re: Thanks again for your service!
Of course, music has always been an international art form that connects people around the world. Avi Goldfinger, a guitarist and singer-songwriter, is the third partner. Conducting meticulous studies of heritage guitars dating back to the s through s, they are striving to gain insights into the formula that has established these instruments as timeless classics.
The conclusion they arrived at was perfectly clear: Make everything that you can – including the glue – yourself and use only the finest resonant tone wood. Some of the wood they use has been aged for up to 90 years.
Unlike the higher end models like the SA , SA , etc.
Choose the Fender Serial Number: Most notably, production dates have been penciled or stamped on the butt end of the heel of the neck of most guitars and basses. There were periods of time when this was not consistently done, between and , and there are certainly other examples of short periods of time, and individual pieces, where the dating was simply omitted. While this neck dating is useful in roughly determining the age of a guitar, it is certainly not definitive.
The neck date simply refers to the date that the individual component was produced. Given the modular nature of Fender’s production techniques, an individual neck may have been produced in a given year, placed in the manufacturing warehouse and remained in stock for a period of time, and then subsequently paired with a body to create a complete guitar in the following year.
So, obviously a neck date, while being helpful in providing a date range of production, it cannot be a definitive reference. Unlike the auto industry which has specific model years for their products, most specifications for a given Fender instrument model, change little if any, through the lifetime of the model.

Guys like me only had affordable delays like the Digitech RDS 3. The Edge U2 has used one for years and still uses one today.

The source-date code on a pot is a 6 or 7 digit code impressed into the casing of the potentiometer. For speakers this code can be 5, 6, 7 or 8 digits long, and it’s ink-stamped or paint-stamped on the “bell housing” of the speaker. In either case, the code works the same.
Heat it up and lift the leg which attaches to the jack side.

No way TLC just lets her wing it, they have a script and she is going to be sticking to it.

Nearly mint — great guitar.
After release of the first Performing Artist Series last year, Martin added the “4” models in , consisting of dreadnought, orchestra, and grand performance models. The GPCPA4 shares characteristics from the big rich sound of the Dreadnought and the clarity of the Orchestra model and combines them for a sonic signature of its own. The Performing Artist Series feature a more parallel neck profile with a slimmer taper at the 12th fret, giving the guitar comfortable width in the first few frets plus a faster feel for lead-work up the neck.
The new smaller bridge design reduces mass and increases the soundboard’s tonal response. This is an excellent sounding acoustic, with a very round tone and good projection. Plugged in the tone is more natural than most other saddle transducers I’ve used and while the EQ’ing is limited, the mid-scoop design can change the character of the tone very distinctly, from tones similar to a dreadnought, jumbo, or even a parlor size.
